**Assistant Director Workplace Relations**:

**Primary purpose of the role**
The Assistant Director, Workplace Relations is responsible for the strategic direction and the day-to-day operation of the agency's employment framework. This key leadership role is expected to engage, impact and provide advice to ARPANSA's Executive on all aspects of the employment framework, including workplace relations arrangements, HR matters, complex people management and case work, pay and conditions. The role will provide high quality service and advice to the CEO and Executive Group in fulfilling their statutory responsibilities under the Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (ARPANS) Act 1998. A key focus of the role is to ensure that all policies, systems, and services are aligned to the strategic priorities established by the agency and Government.
The key duties of the position include:
**Key accountabilities**
- Plan, manage and lead the strategic and operational services of the agency's employment frameworks;
- Provide high level strategic and operational advice to ARPANSA's Executive on a range of human resource management, employee relations and workforce planning issues, risks, initiatives, trends and practices;
- Drive the development and implementation of best practice policies, processes and systems to support agency and Government initiatives and priorities, particularly in the areas of human resource management, workplace relations and complex people management and case work;
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Agency through consultation and participation with decision makers as required; including attendance and participation at the agency's staff consultative forum and associated workplace relations forums and networks;
- Build and sustain effective relationships both internally and with external stakeholders, including unions, professional associations, service providers and Government agencies to support the achievement of corporate and section goals;
- Lead organisational change initiatives.
- Support and coach managers across ARPANSA to manage people interactions proactively and promptly so they don't escalate
Eligibility
To be considered for this position you will have proven knowledge and extensive experience in successfully managing contemporary human resource management approaches, strategic planning, and project implementation and employee relations activities within a corporate environment in the public or private sector. You will also have a sound understanding of the Commonwealth's legislative and policy frameworks in these areas.
- You will possess highly developed leadership and management skills, including the ability to lead change and develop workforce solutions that improve the agency's capability and performance. You will have a proven record of developing positive relationships and the ability to influence diverse stakeholder groups and staff.
- You must hold Australian citizenship or possess permanent residency status leading to citizenship and be prepared to travel interstate from time to time as required. ARPANSA requires all new employees to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance as a condition of engagement.

- Demonstrated experience working with executive level leadership on complex human resource and employee relations matters within a corporate or public sector environment;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Workplace Relations legislative frameworks;
- High level interpersonal and communication skills which demonstrates a capacity to work collaboratively and build and sustain positive relationships with staff, stakeholders and clients;
- Demonstrated ability to make well balanced and informed decisions in relation to contemporary workplace relation arrangements and respond positively and flexibly to new and changing HRM environments in a timely manner; and
- Demonstrated experience in delivering HR projects that achieve strategic and operational outcomes.
