**How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne** 
The City Data branch enables CoM as a global leader in data-enabled, evidence based, city decision making that is respected and influences relevant layers of Australian government (Federal, State and local) and key local stakeholders (property sector, community sector, media, economists, etc). We enable better policy, planning and operational decisions based on actionable insights and secure robust datasets. 
The branch provides research, insights and views of the city and organisation to internal and external customers, with the objective to enhance city and organisational efficiency. The team provides facts, evidence and insights to inform decision making in other CoM branches and in the community where required. 
The Head of Data Platforms and Governance position reports into the Chief Data Officer and will be leading the Data Centre of Expertise and Spatial teams in support of CoM’s digital, data and technology strategy. It will be a key contributor towards continuous delivery of data led solutions ensuring all decisions and outcomes are aligned with CoM’s overall plan and vision. 
The Head of Data Platforms and Governance role is responsible for: 
- Data management strategy 
- Delivering foundational cloud data capability to uplift process automation, digital capability, data governance and simplification in support of CoM’s Digital, Technology and Data vision. 
- Setting and implementing the strategic plan and corporate data strategy for the data platforms which includes Data Hub (Cloud and On-prem), Spatial platforms and the Open Data Platform. This includes a roadmap to unify core internal and external data sources to deliver a single source of the truth for the whole of CoM into the cloud data platform. 
- Running CoM’s Data Governance Forum to ensure CoM’s data is managed in line with industry governance practices. This includes reviewing data management systems and providing advice areas for improvement and best practice solutions. 
- Data Engineering use cases that enable greater integration of data, activity-based and predictive analysis, machine learning, text mining and similar to drive greater value from CoM’s data. 
- Identifying capabilities needed to build a team of high performing data, spatial and BI engineers with focus on growth and talent uplift. 
- Strategic partnership with key CoM branches and community stakeholders, advocating and demonstrating the Data Coe and Spatial teams capability to successfully deliver major initiatives. 
- Liaising with technology leads to ensure that the architecture of the Data platforms is at a certain standard, supporting CoM’s digital and data missions. 
- Communicate with team members to ensure standards are being published, updated and adhered to, to support the communication of business information and decisions. 
- Develop thought leadership and Data Management collateral to all levels of technology and business teams across CoM and effectively integrate long term opportunities and challenges into delivery plan.
