About the role
The Immigration Detention Monitoring Program regularly visits immigration detention facilities nationwide, to monitor treatment and conditions for people in immigration detention. The Detention Lead provides operational leadership and strategic advice in addition to providing detailed written reports whilst coordinating the work of casual Humanitarian Observers and volunteers visiting immigration detention facilities. The Detention Lead will maintain awareness of the detention environment and policy context and engage with authorities managing detention facilities and other stakeholders to coordinate the work of the program.
What you will bring
* High level of knowledge of migration related policy and legislative requirements relevant to people made vulnerable because of migration.
* Demonstrated sound technical knowledge and expertise in providing professional supervision and direction to staff engaged in social casework direct client engagement.
* Sound analytical skills and demonstrated ability to assess, evaluate and solve problems and exercise initiative and judgment where practices and procedures are not clearly defined.
* Sound negotiation skills with the aptitude to gain co-operation from stakeholders, including the ability to negotiate and liaise with government, non-government and Movement stakeholders.
* Ability to lead and support teams in high-pressure settings
* Proven capacity to develop evidence-based advocacy/humanitarian diplomacy strategies and provide judgement and leadership for policy development and influence.
* Advanced skills in using Microsoft Office tools, such as outlook, word and excel data analytic tools, such as PowerBi
* A current Australian Drivers Licence and Working With Children Check
