An Australian automation business is seeking a
Head of Engineering & Innovation
to drive excellence, growth, and cutting-edge solutions. The company delivers high-speed robotic automation across FMCG, with projects up to $10M+ and focus on bespoke, high-performing systems, which actually work – they are some of the most well regarded systems integrators in the country and are renowned for delivering first of their kind systems which are effectively integrated and well controlled.
They specialise in mid and end of line automation such as conveying, case packing, palletising/depalletising/repalletising, flow wrapping, high-speed pick-and-place/pick and pack, and advanced software that provides control and tracks product flow across multiple high speed robots. Innovation sits at the heart of the business and they are often engaged to solve complex engineering problems that do not have out-of-the-box solutions available, where bespoke engineering is required.
This role exists partly for succession planning – you will learn directly from one of the owners who is their senior most technical leader and the innovation engine behind their success. Insofar as the core role, you will manage a team of 4 leads across mechanical, mechatronics, robotics, and software, providing hands-on leadership, mentoring, and technical oversight. You'll ensure projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest standard, while helping implement structure, processes, and scalable systems.
What we're looking for:
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics, Robotics).
* Experience managing other engineers
* Hands-on experience delivering complex robotics and automation projects.
* A background working for automation systems integrators would be necessary, with additional client-side experience being an advantage
* Relevant industry experience preferred (food, beverage, dairy, pharma, consumer goods, personal care etc)
* Expertise in PLC programming, robotics and systems integration, high-speed automation, MES/SCADA.
* Solid understanding of how systems integrate through to the ERP level
* An interest in AI and Industry 4.0/5.0 and their prospective applications within manufacturing.
