The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) provides contemporary operational and professional nursing leadership for the CHQ Operations Centre. The role shapes clinical and corporate governance; and provides the coordination of service delivery, human and material management, expertise in health care team communication and highly developed data analysis and fiscal management to deliver safe, quality, effective and efficient healthcare provision.


About The Team

The Assistant Director of Nursing – Patient Flow and CATCH is responsible for the design and delivery of a contemporary and evidence based CHQ Operations Centre including patient flow, safety clinical nurse consultants (CNC) and Clinical Advice and Transport Coordination Hub (CATCH). The CHQ Operations Centre is responsible for the delivery of effective management of all internal patient flow as well as external clinical advice and coordination of inter‑hospital transfers in and out of the Queensland Children's Hospital via CATCH.

The role will work in partnership with the clinical and divisional leads of CHQ to deliver a safe, efficient and effective patient flow and CATCH service. The Assistant Director of Nursing – Patient Flow and CATCH will manage a team of clinical and administrative staff working within the CHQ Operations Centre.

The role will be required to participate in the EDNS on‑call roster.


About The Role

* Lead the function responsible for the effective delivery of effective patient flow models and systems for CHQ.
* Effectively lead the team of Safety CNCs in the delivery of evidence based clinical advice to staff across the Queensland Children's Hospital (QCH) as required including in the after hours space.
* Lead the CATCH team to deliver a 24/7 statewide service that coordinates access to life‑changing care for children and families in northern New South Wales and all of Queensland by:
* Supporting provision of specialist paediatric advice for clinicians in primary, secondary and tertiary settings
* Coordinating tertiary and quaternary flows (escalations and de‑escalations of care) for acute paediatric patients to ensure safe transport of patients.
* Be responsible for the effective connection of services and teams within the CHQ Operations Centre to provide safe and effective flow through the QCH.
* Provide effective strategic and professional leadership for the management, planning and delivery of safe, quality consumer/person centred care as part of CHQ's flow response.
* Participate in the implementation, application and evaluation of established guidelines, protocols, procedures, standards and systems as established by CHQ.
* Be responsible and accountable for the planning, coordinating, managing and evaluating of all services provided within the unit.
* Contribute to the overall management of CHQ service delivery.
* Contribute to leadership of professional Nursing activities as a member of the Children's Health Queensland Nursing Executive and is accountable for engagement in nursing workforce planning and development.
