About the Role:

On behalf of the Department for Environment and Water, a rareopportunity has arisen for an accomplished leader to join asExecutive Director, Corporate, Heritage and Climate Action. As akey member of the Department's Executive team, you will be atthe forefront of shaping South Australia's response toclimate change, heritage management and corporate serviceexcellence, as well as the broader natural resource managementobjectives of the Department.
The Department for Environment and Water is a respected SouthAustralian public sector employer known for its commitment tosustainable natural resource management, progressive workplacepractices and promotion of diversity and inclusion. This position provides a unique platform to influence policy atstate, national and international levels, while fostering a cultureof collaboration and high performance within a supportiveenvironment. With direct access to the Chief Executive andMinister, your expertise will help drive government priorities anddeliver meaningful outcomes for communities across SouthAustralia.

Key responsibilities:

* Provide strategic direction and operational oversight forthe Corporate, Heritage, and Climate Action Division, ensuringalignment with government priorities.
* Advise the Chief Executive and Minister on complex mattersrelated to climate change, state planning policy, heritagemanagement, landscape services and corporate functions.
* Foster a positive work culture by nurturing talent,supporting staff well-being and driving continuous improvementinitiatives.
* Represent the Department in state, national andinternational forums to advocate for South Australian interestsin climate action and heritage preservation.
* Establish partnerships with local communities, AboriginalNations, NGOs, industry stakeholders and government agencies toachieve shared goals.
* Ensure compliance with legislation such as theLandscape South Australia Act 2019 and ClimateChange and Greenhouse Emissions Reduction Act 2007 andmaintain robust governance standards.
* Lead transformational programs supporting electioncommitments and advancing departmental priorities in planningpolicy and natural resource management.
* Drive effective communication strategies internally andexternally to support policy positioning and incident responserequirements.
* Foster a positive work culture by nurturing talent,supporting staff well-being and driving continuous improvementinitiatives.
* Champion workplace health and safety by embedding bestpractice procedures throughout all operations.

Key requirements:

* Relevant tertiary qualifications in fields like businessmanagement, natural resource management, science, law,economics or planning, with extensive experience in the publicsector or similar environments.
* Proven ability to navigate politically sensitiveenvironments, emphasising collaboration, stakeholder engagementand inclusivity, particularly with First Nations and diversepartners.
* Demonstrated strategic policy and planning skills,balancing immediate operational needs with long-termsustainability goals, while fostering staff development andleading cultural change.
Strong leadership and advanced negotiation skills in complexpolitical environments, with a focus on strategic thinking,crisis responsiveness, and effective communication for diverseaudiences.
* A demonstrated understanding of corporate functions,including people management, finance, ICT systems,communications, governance and workplace safety, with acommitment to best practice governance and organisationalresilience.
