Seniors Social Support Visitor – Share Stories and Music in Ocean Grove
The Role: The Aged Care Volunteer Visiting Scheme (ACVVS), funded by the Australian Government, connects volunteers with an older person who is feeling lonely and/or socially isolated, to build friendships and reduce feelings of loneliness. In your volunteer role you will be paired with an aging senior to provide them regular social support visits in their home. Activities during your visit are based on yours and your clients interests and could include conversation, board games, listening to music or sharing stories. Get to know someone new and make a difference in your local community
Our Client: A friendly gentleman in his late 80s who lives independently in Ocean Grove. A former builder and keen handyperson, he has a great eye for detail and a lifetime of stories to share. He is a long-time Ocean Grove resident (since 1983) so if you have any local knowledge, is a bonus He loves listening to music, especially crooners like Jerry Vale and enjoys reminiscing about the past. For him music is a great way to connect. He was once an avid golfer and still enjoys talking about the game.
This is where you come in. By spending time with him for regular social visits, sharing a cup of tea, looking through old photographs, and listening to music, you'll help bring joy and connection to his day. He would prefer a male visitor in the afternoon, and your presence can make a meaningful difference.
