Ecosystems Management Services Officer
Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef. The Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort, an award-winning eco-tourism business operates on the island.
The resort is in its 8th year of delivering a major revegetation program funded by the GBRMPA (Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority). The program's vision is to restore the cay's natural ecosystems and create a diversity of habitats suitable for migratory nesting seabirds and sea turtles; and develop terrestrial ecosystem resilience.
We are seeking a Ecosystems Management Services Officer to join our small island team on 10 days on, 4 days off roster on an ongoing basis. The role will be based out of Hervey Bay. Accommodation will be in a shared room.
Duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
· Planting, weeding (multiple methods) and providing post-planting care to areas under restoration,
· Irrigation installation and removal,
· Assist in the nursery, as required,
· Assist with the revegetation volunteer program,
· Equipment maintenance,
· Resort guest interactions and knowledge sharing,
Skills, Qualifications and attributes required:
* The ability to work unsupervised,
* A strong focus on safety and quality standards,
* Current driver's licence,
* ACDC Licence,
* Chainsaw Licence,
* Skills or experience associated with the following aspects will be considered favourably:
* Revegetation,
* Horticulture or Agriculture,
* In-field irrigation,
* Heavy machinery (front end loader) experience,
o Knowledge of coastal SE Qld or Southern GBR native plants,
o Knowledge of common exotic plant species found in coastal SE Qld.

This is a physically demanding role which requires a good level of physical fitness.
This role is located within a remote area, and subject to a nominated 10 days on and 4 days off 'fly in / fly out' roster. Applicants need to be aware that working in a remote area is a different environment where you may experience less of the everyday comforts of life. The only transport option is via light aircraft. The successful applicant will be recruited to fly in/out of Hervey Bay.
