The Role of Financial Director
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Director to lead our financial operations, ensuring sound financial governance and supporting strategic decision-making across the organisation.
* Financial Leadership: As a senior leader, you will be responsible for managing and leading the Finance team, providing guidance and oversight of our financial systems, reporting, and compliance.
* Budgeting & Planning: You will lead the development, monitoring and reporting of our Annual Budget, Long Term Financial Plan, and quarterly budget reviews, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
* Financial Reporting: Oversee the preparation of monthly management reports, Annual Financial Statements, and performance indicators, providing insightful analysis and recommendations to senior leaders.
* Compliance & Controls: Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, while maintaining robust internal controls, and identifying areas for improvement.
* Treasury & Risk: Manage our treasury operations, including cash flow, investments, loans, and financial risk, mitigating potential threats and maximising opportunities.
* Audit & Governance: Liaise with external auditors, prepare Audit and Risk Committee reports, and contribute to risk management and audit outcomes, ensuring transparency and accountability.
* Asset Management Support: Provide financial expertise to assist with the planning and management of our assets, optimising their value and return on investment.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal departments, external agencies, elected members, and community stakeholders, communicating effectively and facilitating collaboration.
To succeed in this role, you will have proven experience in financial and accounting management, preferably in local government or a similar regulated environment. You will possess tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with CPA or CA status (or working towards). Strong people leadership skills and the ability to develop, mentor, and lead a team are essential. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute to long-term financial planning and advise senior leaders on financial matters.
