Council is seeking an accomplished and forward‑thinking leader to provide strategic direction and oversight of our asset strategy, compliance, and property and fleet asset management functions. This pivotal role is responsible for leading the development of long‑term, sustainable asset strategies that balance risk, cost and performance to support high‑quality service delivery across the organisation. Working at a whole‑of‑Council level, you will ensure asset management planning is fully integrated with the Strategic Asset Management Plan, Long Term Financial Forecast, and Local Government Infrastructure Plan, while providing expert internal advice on asset data, knowledge, and organisational compliance with the Asset Management System.
Leading teams across Strategic Infrastructure Planning, Capital Planning, Property and Fleet Asset Management, Asset Strategy, Asset Compliance and Water Strategy, this role works across Council to turn long‑term strategy into practical outcomes. You’ll support sound financial decision‑making, improve how we plan and manage assets across their full lifecycle, and look for smarter ways of working through innovation and continuous improvement. With strong relationships across all levels of government, industry and the community, you’ll help support Townsville’s growth and ensure our asset decisions deliver lasting benefits for our community.
Qualifications And Experience
Our ideal candidate will be a proven senior leader with contemporary leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the organisation, including with the Leadership Team, elected Council and key external stakeholders. You will bring strong financial and budget management experience, with the ability to balance resources, meet statutory obligations and deliver high‑quality services and customer outcomes.
With a strong strategic and policy mindset, you will be skilled at influencing, engaging and bringing people together to achieve shared goals. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with experience managing complex, high‑value projects from planning through to delivery and reporting at executive level. Above all, you will demonstrate integrity, personal drive and a genuine commitment to teamwork, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Asset Management, Business or a related field and a successful track record as a Senior Manager in a large, diverse organisation.
