Your Team
You’ll join a multi-disciplinary Tech Strategy, Enterprise & Solution Architecture team. The team supports all of Hollard’s technologies, our business architecture and our technology transformation strategy. Architecture as a practice has grown quickly in size since its inception in 2020. This is due to significant consolidation and acquisitions, along with an ambitious transformation agenda.
Your Role
This role is a critical role in delivering our modern payment platform strategy and policy. Working closely with the Enterprise, Solution Architecture team and the wider tech and business teams, you will apply a breadth of technology and business knowledge to help design new payment solutions, in addition to seeking opportunities to bring forward the delivery of value to our customers by incrementally modernising existing solutions. Within IT, you will lead the successful delivery of new payment initiatives together with developing architecture reference architectures, patterns, standards etc. Your primary scope will cover the payment domain. You may be asked to support other domains as required and appropriate.
Your duties and responsibilities
* Design technical migration approaches for transitioning payment capabilities off the legacy Insurer system to modern platforms, including extracting payment logic, migrating payment data and transaction history, transitioning direct debit mandates (DDR) to PayTo, re-tokenizing stored payment instruments, and designing cutover strategies that maintain continuous payment processing with zero disruption to premium collections and claims payments.
* Create technical architectures for payment acceptance, processing, and settlement across insurance premium collections, merchant transactions, and claims payments, defining system components, payment flows, and integration patterns.
* Design integrations with regional payment service providers, acquirers, card schemes and payment rails ensuring optimal routing and fallback strategies.
* Design end-to-end reconciliation frameworks that match payment transactions with bank settlements, handle chargebacks and refunds, and ensure accurate financial reporting for both insurance premiums and merchant receipts.
* Design architectures that maximize authorization rates, minimize payment latency, implement smart retry logic, reduce payment processing costs through least-cost routing (LCR) compliance, and leverage dual-network debit cards effectively.
* Design solutions that enable consistent payment experiences across web, mobile, call center, agent portals, and in-person channels for both insurance policy purchases and merchant point-of-sale
Your knowledge & experience
* Demonstrated experience in payments platform development is required.
* Must have deep understanding of the New Payments Platform (NPP), Osko, PayTo, and traditional rails like BECS (Direct Entry), BPAY, and RTGS.
* Good understanding of the insurance lifecycle—Premium collection (inbound), Claims disbursements (outbound), and Broker commissions
* Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with APRA (CPS 231, CPS 234 for data security) and ASIC requirements. Knowledge of PCI-DSS standards for handling cardholder data is mandatory.
* Good understanding of the insurance lifecycle—Premium collection (inbound), Claims disbursements (outbound), and Broker commissions is required.
* Strong management of lower environments and code promotion to production, especially in complex environments with many applications and projects
* Familiarity with Commonwealth Banks BPOINT solution, including IVR flow, tokenisation, iframe integration is highly desired.
