Position Summary
Vestas is seeking an experienced Lead Purchasing Manager to join our highly skilled Construction Procurement team in Melbourne.
This role will oversee the sourcing and commercial delivery of lifting installation scopes, playing a critical role in the successful execution of wind farm projects across Australia and New Zealand.
You will bring energy, ownership, and commercial sharpness to an already high‐performing team, operating at the forefront of the renewable energy transition.
The Construction & Transport Procurement team is responsible for the strategic sourcing of all industrial service providers supporting the transportation, lifting and installation of wind power plants.
This role spans the full project lifecycle—from early sales/tender engagement through to execution—and requires close collaboration across Sales, Construction, Legal, Contracts Management and other technical packages (civil, electrical, transport) to ensure fully aligned and competitive project submissions.
You won't just be procuring services—you will be enabling the construction of critical renewable energy infrastructure, working at the forefront of Australia's energy transition. This is a role suited to someone who thrives on ownership, collaboration, and making a tangible impact.
Responsibilities
* Lead procurement of crane and installation scopes across multiple projects, from tender phase through to contract award.
* Partner closely with Sales teams during tenders to shape competitive and executable project solutions.
* Liaise with Civil, Electrical, and Transport teams to ensure alignment across all work packages and interfaces.
* Develop and manage project budgets, cost models, and commercial evaluations.
* Evaluate supplier submissions across commercial, technical, and legal dimensions.
* Lead commercial negotiations and contract closure, working closely with Legal and Contracts Management teams.
* Build strong, long‐term supplier relationships to ensure capacity, capability, and competitiveness.
* Drive risk identification and mitigation strategies, particularly for large‐scale installation activities.
* Develop and execute sourcing strategies for crane and installation markets in ANZ.
* Ensure delivery against key metrics: safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Law, Finance, or related field.
* 7+ years' experience in procurement, commercial management, or project management, ideally within construction, infrastructure, or energy.
* Experience with large‐scale industrial equipment, cranes, or installation scopes highly regarded.
* Demonstrated experience working across tendering and project delivery environments.
Key Competencies
* Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess complex offers across technical, commercial, and legal aspects.
* Proficiency in SAP Ariba, Excel, and cost modelling/budgeting tools.
* Experience working cross‐functionally with engineering, construction, legal, and contract management teams.
* Confident and capable negotiator, with experience in major infrastructure contracts.
* Strong project management mindset, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
* High level of initiative, drive, and accountability – a true go‐getter mentality.
* Passion and interest in cranes, lifting, and installation methodologies.
