Description

Saints Academy Educators are responsible for providing education and care for children enrolled at the service, consistent with our core learning approach, philosophy and curriculum and in accordance with the requirements of the National Quality Framework. Educators work in collaboration with the Coordinator (Nominated Supervisor), the Educational Leader and the other Educators.

Essential Skills

* A working knowledge of the My Time, Our Place learning framework for school‐age children in Australia;
* Demonstration of the skills necessary to meet the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations;
* Demonstrated ability to work in partnership with families;
* Effective communication skills with adults and children;
* A growth mindset and willingness to embrace the core learning approach of Saints Academy;
* Ability to contribute to work, health and safety issues in the Centre;
* Ability to support other staff in the Centre;
* Dynamic and supportive team member meeting high‐quality care standards under the National Quality Framework.

Specific Responsibilities

Mission

* To uphold the vision of the Centre;
* To support Biblical values and sensibly teach Biblical truths;
* To speak openly and sensitively to Christian children;
* To support and encourage families in need;
* To pray with other staff for the needs of the Centre.

Personal Faith

* Active member of a Christian church and pursue regular teaching and fellowship;
* Display the fruit of the Spirit in daily life as described in Galatians 5:22‐23;
* Handle Centre matters with confidentiality;
* Participate in regular staff evaluation focusing on personal, spiritual and professional development.

Education and Care of Children

* Act in a manner that promotes the best interests of the child;
* Implement a high‐quality education and care programme consistent with the Service philosophy, policies and procedures, the Saints Academy core learning approach, National Regulations, National Law and the National Quality Standards;
* Respond to children's strengths, interests and needs and contribute to the planning cycle;
* Document children's learning and development under guidance of the Coordinator and Educational Leader;
* Engage in critical reflection to guide future planning;
* Engage children in responsive learning opportunities in meaningful moments, intentional and spontaneous interactions, children's agency and choice, routine times and environmental sustainability;
* Support the planning and development of an inclusive environment, role‐model positive interactions, respect diversity and maintain each child's dignity;
* Respond to emotional, social and wellbeing needs; provide physical care and teach hygiene and meal times as teaching moments;
* Support children's individual wellbeing and comfort during rest and relaxation;
* Maintain a ready, child‐friendly environment that reflects curiosity and problem‐solving;
* Ensure regulations, licensing guidelines, policies and procedures are observed.

Partnerships with Families and Community

* Respect families' child‐rearing practices, beliefs and role;
* Build and maintain professional, inclusive, positive relationships with families;
* Communicate professionally and maintain confidentiality;
* Leverage families' knowledge and experience to support learning;
* Assist with orientation, enrolment and transition processes for families and children.

Partnerships with Other Educators and Professionals

* Respect and support colleagues through respectful communication based on Christian principles of mutual respect, equity and fairness;
* Acknowledge and support personal strengths, professional experience and team diversity;
* Engage in professional conversations to enhance knowledge and practice;
* Support a healthy team environment and assist new and junior staff;
* Inform the Nominated Supervisor of any problem affecting children, the Service's approval or rating, regulatory compliance or smooth running of the Service;
* Participate in the Service's Quality Improvement Plan;
* Perform incidental administrative duties, e.g., signing for deliveries, organising noticeboards;
* Maintain supplies and equipment levels.

Professional Conduct and Learning

* Work within the National Quality Framework, SPCC Staff Code of Conduct and Service philosophy, policies and procedures;
* Contribute as an effective team member;
* Participate in performance appraisal process;
* Engage in reflective practice and ongoing professional learning;
* Attend staff meetings and professional learning events;
* Undertake Food Safe training, First Aid (including Anaphylaxis and Asthma) and approved Child Protection training at intervals set by the organisation.

Organisational Staff Representation

* Support the organisation's philosophy, policies and represent the organisation positively at external contacts;
* Uphold St Philip's Christian College vision, mission, core values and beliefs, and Saints Academy values, vision and philosophy;
* Collaborate, attend staff meetings and implement all Centre policies and procedures.

Workplace Health and Safety

* Act in a manner that does not pose a risk to self or others;
* Ensure a safe and healthy work environment and act immediately on safety issues;
* Follow child protection and child‐safe standards, report allegations and convictions of child‐protection nature, and ensure compliance as a mandated reporter;
* Understand and implement emergency management procedures;
* Maintain duty of care to children and families;
* Maintain educator‐to‐child ratios, administer first aid and medication accurately, and keep detailed records; respond positively to children's additional needs, including diet/allergies and developmental requirements;
* Share cleaning duties equally.

Essential Criteria

* Paid Working with Children's Check;
* National Childcare Safely Training, or willingness to complete within two weeks of commencing.
