Primary objective
The Assistant Principal provides high quality educational leadership to improve the educational outcomes of students and develop
and maintain quality teaching and learning programs. The Assistant Principal works strategically, collaboratively and successfully
with the school's principal, teachers, students, community and stakeholders.
Context statement
Larapinta Primary School is a diverse and innovative urban primary school in Alice Springs, catering for students from preschool to
Year 6 with an enrolment of approximately 340 students. A Child and Family Centre also operates on site. Approximately 40% of
students are Aboriginal and the school community is proudly multicultural. Guided by the motto, "Every Child a Success", Larapinta
Primary School provides a supportive and engaging learning environment, implementing whole-school programs; School Wide
Positive Behaviour Support, Learning through Doing maths, Read Write Inc, and the Child Protection Curriculum: Keeping Safe.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide educational leadership and management across preschool to Year 6 to ensure the delivery of effective educational
programs to meet the needs of students in line with departmental policy and school strategic direction and positive partnership
with the school community.
1. Provide leadership and participate in the formulation and review of school policy, procedures and strategic plans to achieve
high standards and successful student outcomes.
1. Contribute to and supervise the development and implementation of curriculum in line with departmental policy to meet
student needs.
1. Lead and provide support to school staff in effective management of student wellbeing and engagement.
2. Provide support to the principal on educational and administrative matters.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the Teacher Registration Board of the Northern Territory and current working with Children Clearance Notice
(Ochre Card)
2. Proven ability to work within a cross-cultural school environment, interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and
successfully develop effective partnerships with parents and the community.
3. Sound knowledge of current and emerging educational theory, particularly explicit teaching; curriculum, assessment and
reporting; and a demonstrated capacity to collect and analyse data for improved student outcomes.
4. Effective initiation and management of change and a demonstrated capacity and commitment to promoting continuous
improvement in student learning.
5. Effective interpersonal, written and oral communication skills with colleagues, students and parents including proven conflict
resolution skills.
6. Relevant involvement and skills in leading professional learning.
Desirable
1. Relevant training in School Wide Positive Behaviour Support, Read Write Inc and Learning through Doing.
