The Rail Industry Safety and Standards (RISSB) is the Australian Rail Industry Standards Development Organisation (SDO) and is accredited by Standards Australia. RISSB is primarily responsible for the development, amendment, management and ownership of the Australian Code of Practice (ACOP) as it relates to the Rail Industry. The ACOP incorporates codes, standards, rules and guidelines. RISSB is also responsible for other documents, systems and processes necessary and desirable to promote railway industry safety, harmonisation, interoperability and productivity in Australia.

RISSB's objectives are detailed in its Constitution. It is a not‑for‑profit company limited by guarantee, owned by its funding members and has been in operation since 2004. RISSB currently has staff across Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Rathmines (NSW), Perth and Townsville with its head office located in Brisbane.

We are currently looking for a Standards Development Manager (SDM) who will be responsible for leading, facilitating and developing a suite of RISSB products using its SDO processes. This is a contract role for a period of 9‑12 months.

The production programme includes developing and maintaining RISSB standards, codes of practice and guidelines (ACOP) and other products as required. The SDM also contributes to continually improving RISSB's product development procedures and approach to ensure growing stakeholder value. Strategically the role will have input into the selection of products for incorporation into the work plan. The SDM is expected to participate in industry engagement to refine product selection regularly with a focus on implementation and adoption.


Key Responsibilities

* Drive the development, amendment and management of the ACOP as it relates to the Rail Industry, as well as other documents, systems and processes to promote railway industry safety, harmonisation, interoperability and productivity in Australia.
* Actively manage the Development Groups assigned to each product and provide day‑to‑day direction on issues as they arise.
* Manage relations with key stakeholders to ensure continued engagement.
* Develop the products under the direction of the Standing Committees and the General Manager Products & Innovation.
* Support the General Manager Products & Innovation in meeting the reporting requirements to the Senior Leadership Team and RISSB Board in a timely manner.
* Support the General Manager Products & Innovation in delivering the objectives of the Company as set out in the Constitution.
* Develop, implement and maintain product delivery plans in line with the RISSB Work Plan.
* Manage contracts and external providers and suppliers related to work‑plan activities.


Qualifications

* Have at least five years experience in the rail industry.
* Hold appropriate tertiary qualifications applicable to the rail industry.
* Demonstrate extensive project management and contract coordination experience.
* Have strong technical writing capability.
* Demonstrated experience working with other rail disciplines (i.e. at a whole‑of‑system level).
* Be available to travel within Australia.
* Comply with and work with RISSB's policies and procedures.
* Work outside normal office hours if required.
* Participate in regular team meetings.
