Marine Biologist / Marine Environment Interpreter Location: Port Douglas, QLD Salary: $73150.00 Superannuation Are you passionate about the ocean, marine life, and sharing your knowledge with others? ABC Snorkel Charters is seeking an enthusiastic Marine Biologist to join our team as a Marine Environment Interpreter and Guide, offering guests a unique, educational, and eco-friendly experience on the Great Barrier Reef. About Us: At ABC Snorkel Charters, we are committed to delivering small-group, personalised tours of the Great Barrier Reef. Our guides provide expert knowledge and a welcoming environment to ensure our guests leave with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for marine conservation. Your duties will include: Conducting marine biology and marine environmental presentations during our snorkel trips. Leading guided snorkelling and/or diving tours that include marine interpretation. Conducting fish-feeding presentations with associated educational content. Delivering climate-change presentations aligned with our values and conservation messaging. Training and mentoring other snorkel and diving guides, including Indigenous Reef Education Rangers, in marine biology interpretation and reef health monitoring. Supporting research bodies such as GBRMPA with reef health monitoring, marine life and water sampling, and marine science technology use. Conducting marine surveys and reporting to support environmental management and research efforts. Assist guests with snorkelling equipment, offer safety briefings, and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all passengers. Promote eco-friendly practices, encouraging sustainable tourism and marine conservation. Engage with international guests by offering explanations in multiple languages (linguistic skills are a plus!). Support skipper and other crew with safe operation of vessel and cleaning maintenance. Qualifications required: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology, Marine Science, or a closely related field (required). Minimum 1.5 years (20hrs per week) of relevant experience in marine biology, reef education, or marine tourism. Strong knowledge of coral reefs and marine ecosystems; local reef knowledge is an advantage. Passion for environmental education and marine conservation. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences. Current CPR/First Aid certification and Open Water Diver certification (required). Physical fitness to meet the demands of snorkelling, swimming, and working outdoors.
