About The Role
The Environmental Project Officer – Earth Scientist will play a crucial role in executing policies and strategies aimed at protecting the Sutherland Shire’s environment. This includes a focus on contaminated lands, acid sulphate soils, and site management. The successful candidate will also manage environmental works programs and provide environmental education programs across various council units to improve their understanding of environmental impacts.
In this role, you will be responsible for providing specialist environmental advice and support, conducting research, preparing environmental and informative reports, and maintaining council's contaminated lands information register. You will also engage with stakeholders and represent the council on environmental matters at the land and environment court and state levels.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for a skilled professional with a strong background in environmental sciences and project management who is passionate about the environment.
Tertiary qualifications in earth sciences or environmental studies.Proven ability to develop and implement environmental policies and programs.Strong research skills and experience preparing environmental documents.Experience in preparing and understanding environmental documents such as REFs, EIS, investigation reports and management plans.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be adept at critical thinking, and have the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. A commitment to continuous improvement and a proactive approach to environmental challenges are essential.
