We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Ecologist to join our NSW ecology team, based in either of our offices in New South Wales. The successful candidate will hold a senior technical position, leading project delivery and providing expert ecological advice across a diverse portfolio of work. As a trusted project manager and technical lead, the Principal Ecologist will serve as the central point of contact for ecology project knowledge, coordinate communications with key clients, and actively contribute to the development of professional capabilities within the team. This role involves guiding planning and decision-making processes, fostering collaboration, and ensuring alignment with our company’s values, policies, and mission. In addition to leading ecological assessments and approvals, the Principal Ecologist will support both project and administrative functions, with responsibilities shaped by the needs of the General Manager NSW and Technical Director – Ecology. Key Responsibilities: • Manages and delivers complex ecological projects, including field surveys, analysis, reporting, and legislative advice. • Oversees quality assurance of technical outputs and leads project teams with strategic clarity. • Maintains strong client relationships, develops proposals, and identifies new business opportunities. • Shares market intelligence and coordinates participation in conferences and technical publications. • Provides technical support and legal guidance to ensure excellence across team outputs. • Mentors and coaches team members, facilitates knowledge sharing, and leads internal training sessions. • Aligns project work with company values, policies, and mission while supporting administrative duties as needed. To be successful in this role, you will need: • Minimum 8 years of experience in ecological consulting or a related field. • Tertiary qualifications in ecology, environmental science, or a related discipline. • Demonstrated expertise in Australian ecosystems. • Strong understanding of environmental legislation and NSW policy framework. • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality reports on time and within budget. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • A current and valid driver’s licence. • You must have the right to work in Australia to apply for this job.
