About the Program
Make a difference to people in the community through your care and counselling skills. The Crime Victims Program (CVP) delivered by CatholicCare NT (CCNT) and funded by the Northern Territory Government Department of The Attorney General and Justice, aims to:
* Provide crisis and/or trauma counselling for people who are victims of crime in the NT, to support them to work through its impacts and to develop a sense of stability and resolution in their lives.
* Ensure that victims of crime have timely access to information, support and referral services that can assist them in recovering from the impacts associated with the event.
* Build community awareness about the CVP through information sessions about the counselling program and broader crime victims' issues, where appropriate.
About the role
Reporting to the Team Leader, the CVP Counsellor works within a cohesive and integrated team, providing high quality, responsive and culturally appropriate counselling services to meet CVP program objectives. This position has a particular focus on the delivery of evidenced-based therapeutic interventions and trauma informed methodologies, to address the current and historical stress, distress and trauma associated with crime and its associated symptoms, conditions and impacts on life functioning.

* Relevant qualification and experience in Counselling, Psychology or Social Work
* Strong interpersonal communication skills including the ability to form trusting therapeutic alliances with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds who may be exhibiting significant stress and trauma symptoms and dysregulation
* A high degree of personal awareness and well-established strategies to maintain mental health and resilience, in a context where vicarious trauma is a significant risk.
* A strong commitment to and capacity in, person-centred counselling practice, to authentically and empathically engage with clients whose experiences and worldviews may differ significantly from one's own.
