Permanent Part-time Specialist Medical Secretary
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced medical secretary to join our busy private Orthopaedic practice.
Dr John Rooney is an established Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in the adult lower Limb. He consults at St Vincent's Clinic and operates in both the St Vincent's Private and Public Hospitals. He is currently the Head of Orthopaedics at St Vincent's Public Hospital.
The Practice is open Mon-Fri 9am- 5.30pm. We are looking for someone to work 2 days being Tuesday and Wednesday with the possibility of extra hours.
To be successful in this role you need to have the ability to multitask and perform all tasks with a high level of efficiency and diligence. Possessing a positive attitude and being able to work effectively with a dedicated and close loyal team is desirable.
Your key duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to;
* First point of contact for patients in person and over the phone
* Ability to cope and work in a busy environment
* Booking patient appointments and surgery procedures according to practice guidelines
* Liaising with fellow staff and the consultant including accurate receiving and conveying of messages in written, verbal and electronic form.
* Invoicing and receipting along with account management through Medicare, Department of Veteran Affairs and private billing.
* General administrative/secretarial tasks associated with a Medical/Specialist Secretary.
* Providing support and assisting the consultant.
* Maintaining patient records in a paperless practice & complying with patient privacy regulations.
Your essential Skills and Attributes (but are not limited to);
* Exceptional people skills with a compassionate, warm and friendly manner.
* Minimum of 2 years administrative medical experience
* Strong ability to organise, prioritise and multitask
* A strong customer service approach
* Must be efficient, take initiative, flexible and has excellent attention to detail.
* Effective time management skills
* Excellent Microsoft Office computer skills
* Experience with Blue Chip or similar software advantageous.
* Experience with IntelePACS for accessing medical imaging
* Experience with Bupa ADF Portal for invoicing and bookings
* Can work independently and as a part of a team to deliver a very high standard of patient care.
* Familiar with the procedure for medico-legal requests and subpoenas.
* Minimum touch typing speed of 40wpm
* Self -motivated, friendly and excellent presentation
* Knowledge of medical terminology (advantageous)
* Reliable and honest
* Good sense of humour
* The ability to work under pressure and handle multiple demands professionally.
* Must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
The hourly rate is well above the award and will be based on relevant experience, qualifications and capabilities.
