About GWBC

Glen Waverley Bowls Club
(est is a friendly, community-minded sporting club in Melbourne's south-east, offering lawn bowls, social bowls, barefoot bowls, indoor bowls and a growing pickleball program. We have been nominated by Council to be the Premier Bowls Club in the Monash local government area. Our vision is to also be the most respected, well-visited, and responsible sporting club and community centre in Monash, providing a safe, enjoyable and welcoming environment for all patrons.

Location: 690 Waverley Rd, Glen Waverley VIC 3150.

The Opportunity

Our long-serving Treasurer is stepping down, and we're seeking a community-minded volunteer to oversee the Club's finances and support our Board and Committees. This is a typical NFP sporting-club role requiring approximately 3–5 hours per week, with some periods a little busier around month-end and AGM. We use QuickBooks Online (QBO). The role includes an honorary membership of the Club. The role can be partly carried out remotely, though some on-site presence may be required.

You'll also be supported by a passionate group of volunteer leaders who value good governance and clear financial reporting. The position is an important member of the Board of Management of the Club and will work closely with the other Board members, including the President of the Club.

Key Responsibilities

1. Ensure that the Club's debtors and creditors are managed in a timely and efficient manner.
2. Ensure that all payments and receipts are properly documented and undertaken in a timely manner.
3. Follow up on overdue debtors (members, sponsors, function bookings)
4. Recommend investment direction to the Board and monitor the Club's Investment funds.

Governance & Reporting

1. Report to the Board (in consultation with the Facilities Director and President).
2. Prepare and present the Annual Budget and monthly Financial Report for the Board. Work closely with the Facilities Director and President of the club to achieve this.
3. Present financial reports at the AGM and attend monthly Board meetings.
4. Prepare statutory and management reports, including:

Statement of Performance (P&L)

Statement of Financial Position (Balance Sheet)

Cash Flow Forecast

Expenses for Approval Report

Transaction Listing by Account Report

Note: Many of the above reports will be produced easily through QuickBooks Online, which can then be audited by our Club Auditor.

Time, Tools & Support

* Time commitment: approx. 3–5 hours/week (flexible).
* Meetings: Monthly Board meeting (approx. 2 hours per month) + AGM (2 hours once per year).
* Systems: QuickBooks Online; bank banking portal; spreadsheets.
* Handover: support from the outgoing Treasurer (and other Board members will assist in the handover and settling-in period) and access to Club procedures.

About You

* Finance, accounting or bookkeeping background (formal qualifications welcome, but not essential).
* Comfortable with QuickBooks Online (or similar) — or willing to learn.
* Clear communicator who can explain numbers simply.
* Community club or board experience an advantage.
* Local to Glen Waverley or surrounding suburbs.
* Ideal for someone in semi-retirement/retirement seeking a purposeful volunteer role. A great way to give back to the community.
* Interest in bowls or pickleball is a plus, but not essential.

Why Volunteer with GWBC?

* Join a welcoming club with over 50 years of heritage and a progressive outlook, now modernised with 8 new pickleball courts to engage younger players.
* Make a visible impact by helping a popular local venue for lawn bowls and pickleball run sustainably.
* Very flexible hours and a supportive, friendly Board team.
* Great way to keep your skills fresh while giving back.
