Primary objective
As a member of the school Leadership Team, lead the Early Years Team in the planning, development and implementation
of high quality programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students as an instructional coach.
Context statement
Alawa Primary School is a small, innovative school located in the Northern Suburbs of Darwin. The school has an enrolment
of approximately 300 students from Preschool to Year 6 with 20% identifying as Indigenous, and a further 20% as English
as a Second Language/Dialect. Key initiatives at Alawa include a strong literacy and numeracy focus with teaching informed
by data analysis and review. Alawa is committed to the achievement of potential in a caring, collaborative environment for

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Undertake an appropriate teaching load and contribute to the School Leadership Team, lead staff professional learning
including program development and delivery, performance management, and to provide professional learning through
instructional leadership and coaching.
1. In collaboration with the Principal, provide leadership in the development and implementation of curriculum and
behavioural management programs.
1. In collaboration with the Principal and Assistant Principal, assist in the preparation and implementation of strategic plans;
manage online assessment and data systems, supporting data informed teaching and learning processes.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated ability to successfully lead teams in highly effective pedagogical practice including programming,
assessment, monitoring, confirming and reporting processes with a focus on improving student outcomes through
instructional leadership, coaching and mentoring.
1. Proven ability to successfully lead, plan and apply effective behaviour management strategies that contribute to
establishing and maintaining positive relationships and a supportive learning environment.
1. Knowledge of and proven ability to successfully implement, evaluate and lead whole school approaches to achieve
educational outcomes for students as 21st Century learners with a specific focus on play based learning in the early years.
1. Proven ability as an instructional leader in the focus areas of Visible Learning, data analysis and differentiated teaching
and learning, this will include coaching, mentoring and the development and delivery of targeted professional learning
across the school.
Desirable
1. Evidence of further study in coaching and leadership.
