We now have an opportunity for an experienced Application Support Specialist to join us for a 9-month Fixed Term Contract. Based at our Refinery in Geelong, this is a key role in keeping our business‑critical applications running reliably, securely and at peak performance. This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast‑moving, future‑focused organisation supporting Australia's energy transition — and to work across complex platforms that truly keep our business moving.
Job Description
In this role, you'll take ownership of the operations, support and continuous improvement of major enterprise industrial applications. You'll bring a strong technical background, at least 5+ years in application support, and the ability to proactively monitor, troubleshoot and resolve issues across a diverse environment using incident and change management ITIL practices. You'll work closely with vendors, product owners, cloud engineers and security teams, contributing to lifecycle management and system enhancements following the software development lifecycle within an agile delivery model.

Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
Ensuring applications operate reliably and meet service levels aligned with ITIL and business criticality
Proactive monitoring, incident triage, troubleshooting and lifecycle management.
Managing upgrades, deployments and decommissioning aligned to vendor roadmaps.
Building strong relationships with vendors, platform owners and users.
Maintaining documentation, knowledge bases and technical runbooks.
Providing on‑call support for critical after‑hours incidents.
Identifying opportunities for automation and continuous service improvement.
Agile Delivery
Participating in design, build, test and release processes for platform enhancements.
Contributing as a key technical resource within a cross‑functional agile team.
Preparing requirements, design documents, test plans and as‑built artefacts.
Supporting delivery of major multi‑stream programs and solution assessments.
Providing technical input for training materials and platform readiness.
Strategy & Architecture
Contributing to architectural patterns and building blocks.
Ensuring changes align with enterprise architecture principles.
Supporting technology strategy, platform roadmaps and architecture forums.
Quality & Cyber Security
Working closely with cyber teams to meet security strategy and remediate gaps.
Maintaining security baselines: patching, Disaster Recovery (DR), Identity and Access. Management (IAM), data protection & vulnerability management.
Supporting audits, risk assessments and compliance reporting.
Improving platform resilience by defining and executing technical controls.
Qualifications
About you:
5+ years' experience supporting large-scale, operationally critical systems running the operations 24 x 7
Strong hands‑on experience with:
SQL Server, Oracle, Azure SQL, Dataverse.
Supporting and deploying Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) vendor platforms.
API-driven architectures, SSIS, Azure Data Factory & SQL development.
Windows Server, IIS, SOE, Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM packaging.
Cloud (Azure strongly preferred): app hosting, databases, virtualisation.
Troubleshooting across middleware, infrastructure and security layers.
Documentation (Confluence or similar), source control (Bitbucket or similar).
Knowledge‑sharing and stakeholder management.
Strong preference: Power Platform, AVEVA PI system experience.
ITIL knowledge (incident/problem/change management).
Experience across both agile and waterfall environments.
Solid understanding of systems architecture, configuration & cloud migration.
A strong desire to upskill and learn new technologies.
