Job Overview
The Product Developer / Garment Technician role involves developing each style from sketch sign-off until proto review before handing it over to production for bulk.
This role requires technical knowledge of garment construction and finishing, as well as problem-solving skills to address any issues that arise.
You will create tech packs, test and check samples and fabrics before shipping, and maintain records of trims, fabrics, and sketches.
This position supports the on-time execution of each season from sampling through to complete handover to production.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct competitor research and marketing analysis.
* Update CADs/sketches after receiving them from the design assistant.
* Maintain range board updates (physical and digital) after sketch sign-off.
* Perform monthly stocktakes of sampling fabrics and raw materials.
* Order sampling fabrics and record fabric inventory.
* Develop a fabric swatching library.
* Create technical specifications with garment measurements, construction, and specifications for local and offshore production.
* Translate changes to pattern makers and resample with the product manager.
* Prepare bill of materials (BOMs) in tech packs for each style.
* Assist the design assistant with fabric sourcing when needed.
* Measure and inspect proto samples against specifications and patterns.
* Conduct wash tests on fabrics and characteristics at the sampling stage and development phase.
* Manage both offshore and local product development.
* Build and maintain a sample garment, sample fabric, and trim tracker.
* Create grading for all products.
* Keep product history throughout design to shipping milestones.
* Conduct wear tests as required.
* Perform other tasks requested by the Creative Director, Managing Director, and Product Manager.
Desired Skills and Expertise
* A degree or higher qualification in Product Development/Garment Technician or Fashion Design.
* Proven experience in a similar role.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word) and Adobe Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator).
* Strong design fundamentals and garment construction knowledge.
* Familiarity with fabrics and trims, with a passion for fashion.
* Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
* Excellent organization and methodical skills.
