Who we are
The Audit and Assurance Branch (AAB) assesses and improves compliance through the delivery of regulatory audit and assurance activities. Responsibilities include the conduct of a range of audit and other regulatory activities to manage biosecurity, imported food, export, illegal logging and other regulatory risks. We implement a best practice approach to assurance to provide confidence about how effectively and efficiently the department's regulatory systems are managing risks. The branch supports and contributes to the broader department's compliance policy in developing and delivering a risk-based approach to regulation.
The Operational Capability and Performance Section within AAB oversees the capability of the audit workforce and ensures governance of the competency framework. The team are responsible for developing and delivering all technical training, while also coordinating external and corporate courses to meet the evolving needs of the branch.

The Job
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
• designing, developing and delivering technical training course materials and assessments that uplift auditor capability and workforce competence, while contributing to broader departmental and branch initiatives such as regulatory capability programs and the modernisation of training tools and materials
• delivering formal face to face and virtual training and assessment, acting as either the subject matter expert and/or the facilitator
• engaging with stakeholders and working collaboratively with colleagues from across the department, including with subject matter experts, technical policy areas or external contractors/providers in order to deliver training products, specialised technical training and operational advice
• developing and using published training materials, providing updates and responding to queries in a timely and qualified manner
• supporting the governance of the competency management framework which may include undertaking or reviewing competency assessments and associated documentation or providing coaching to auditors
• contributing to capability related projects with a focus on innovation and creative problem solving to develop new approaches and improve outcomes in workforce capability and performance
• maintaining knowledge of, and compliance with, legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations
• promoting and adhering to the APS Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct
• fostering a culture of safety, diversity, inclusiveness, positive attendance and high performance.
Please note that this recruitment process will initially be used to one vacancy in the section and that the role may be able to be performed from any of the locations listed above. The merit pool established through this selection process, which is valid for a period of eighteen months from the date the vacancy was advertised in the Public Service Gazette, may be used to fill future ongoing vacancies in the branch where the duties are of a similar nature.
