About The Role
As a Level B Lecturer in Information Technology Program (School), you will drive the Program's ongoing course-modernisation agenda, embedding GenAI and large language models (LLMs) across teaching, research, and industry engagement. Your workload is split 50 per cent teaching and 50 per cent research/service, with scope to secure an additional research allowance through a VU Research Fellowship.
* Teaching & coordination – Deliver and coordinate multiple units onshore and at trans-national education (TNE) locations (Sydney, Brisbane, Sri Lanka, and China), with an emphasis on areas of current staff shortage.
* Curriculum renewal – Convert existing units in software development, network management, data science, and cybersecurity into GenAI-integrated offerings; design sample capstone and thesis projects that showcase LLM applications.
* Research & innovation – Pursue an applied-LLM research program leading to Q1/CORE A* publications and demonstrable systems displayed in IT laboratories and online.
* Industry & community engagement – Build partnerships that translate research into real-world solutions and attract new students.
* Academic service – Contribute to grant applications, collegial governance, and a safe, inclusive learning environment.
About You
You are an emerging academic with a passion for GenAI-driven innovation and a record of high-quality research in data science, cybersecurity, or natural-language processing.
* Qualifications – PhD (or equivalent) in IT, Data Science, AI, or a related field.
* GenAI expertise – Hands-on experience with LLM APIs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, and prompt engineering, plus the ability to weave these tools into teaching and research.
* Research record – Minimum three first/corresponding-author Q1 papers in the past three years, or two first-author CORE A* papers in the past two.
* Curriculum leadership – Demonstrated success in redeveloping units and supervising high-distinction-level theses or capstone projects that exploit cutting-edge AI.
* Teaching versatility – Capacity to teach across a broad IT portfolio, including mobile or cloud app development, security operations, digital forensics, data visualization, and ICT management.
* Technical strength – Strong programming skills and a track record of building showcase systems that solve real-world problems.
* Collegial communicator – Excellent interpersonal skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to VU's values of Access, Excellence, and Respect, underpinned by the behaviours of Engagement, Collegiality, and Courage.
