Merri-Bek City Council Audit and Risk Committee
The Audit and Risk Committee is an advisory committee to Council that provides Council with independent assurance and assistance in the areas of financial reporting, internal and external audit, internal control effectiveness, risk management, regulatory compliance and performance reporting. The Committee comprises three Councillors and four independent members.

Merri-bek City Council is currently recruiting for two positions on its Audit and Risk Committee:

* Independent member (to commence 3 March 2026 Committee Meeting)
* Audit and Risk Committee Chairperson (to commence 2 June 2026 Committee Meeting)

Term, remuneration and meeting frequency
Council is offering an initial term of 3 years. At the conclusion of the first term, independent members may be reappointed for one additional three-year term subject to satisfactory performance.

Council will pay a fee to independent committee members. This fee will be calculated on a per meeting basis as determined by the CEO and will be indexed in alignment with the rate cap percentage effective each 1 July. The fee includes preparation for and attendance at meetings and payment will be made following each meeting upon receipt of a Tax Invoice. The current fee per meeting is:

* Independent Member $1,703.00
* Committee Chairperson $2,556.00

The Merri-bek City Council Audit and Risk Committee meet four times per year with potential for special meetings to be called. Committee members are expected to meet in person at Coburg Civic Centre – 90 Bell Street Coburg. Meetings are held outside of business hours, usually commencing at 5.45pm and ending before 8.30pm.

Selection Criteria
To be successful in this role applicants will:

* be familiar with governance and operations in Victorian Local Government, the current and emerging risks, and control strategies relevant to the sector.
* have relevant professional qualifications and experience in business management, finance, legal, risk management or audit and compliance.
* be knowledgeable about the duties and responsibilities of the position as outlined in the Charter
* maintain a broad understanding of the legal requirements of the Local Government Act 1989 and the Local Government Act 2020
* have the requisite industry, business, financial and leadership skills, possess strong interpersonal skills and well-developed communication skills

* Be a member of Merri-bek City Council staff; or
* Be an elected member of Merri-bek City Council
