The Magistrates Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) program is a court diversion initiative that offers an opportunity for individuals with substance use disorders to address their addiction and related health issues.
Key Responsibilities
* Engage with defendants before the court who have a history of or current substance use
* Provide assessment and case management to improve their lifestyle and well-being
The MERIT Case Manager will deliver intensive case management, support, counselling, and treatment to defendants struggling with substance use issues who have current legal matters in a Local MERIT Court and MERIT treatment area.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications and registration as a Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist, or Psychologist
* Tertiary qualifications for Social Worker, Counsellor, or Welfare Officer with eligibility for membership in relevant professional associations
We require demonstrated knowledge and experience of holistic approaches to treating substance use disorders. This includes screening, assessment, brief intervention, withdrawal management, contributing to treatment and discharge planning, referral, group work, and community follow-up.
As a MERIT Case Manager, you will apply your expertise in case management and treatment options for people and their families affected by substance use.
