Business Development Manager - Mechanical, Infrastructure & Energy Department: Energy & Infrastructure Location: Melbourne, VIC (Office-based) Reports to: E&I General Manager About the Role We are seeking a driven and commercially astute Business Development Manager to identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities across the mechanical, infrastructure, energy, piping, structural, and heavy lifting sectors. This role is central to expanding our market presence, building long-term client relationships, and driving sustainable revenue growth across complex engineering and construction projects. Key Responsibilities: Business Development & Sales Identify and secure new business opportunities across mechanical, infrastructure, energy, piping, structural, and heavy lifting sectors Develop and execute strategic business development plans aligned with growth objectives Build and maintain a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities Lead tendering, prequalification, and proposal submissions with internal technical teams Negotiate commercial terms to achieve strong project outcomes and manage risk Client & Stakeholder Management Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key clients, asset owners, and subcontractors Act as the primary client contact during pre-award phases Represent the business at client meetings, industry events, and networking functions Drive repeat business through strong client engagement and service focus Market & Industry Insight Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities Identify new technologies, delivery models, and market expansion opportunities Provide insights to support strategic growth and diversification Internal Collaboration Work closely with engineering, operations, project management, procurement, and estimating teams Support seamless project handover from sales to delivery Contribute to bid strategy, pricing development, and value proposition improvement Reporting & Governance Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts, and opportunity tracking Provide regular reporting on pipeline, sales performance, and market activity Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and ethical practices About You Essential Experience Proven experience in business development, sales, or commercial roles within: Mechanical engineering Infrastructure projects Energy (renewables, oil & gas, power generation, or utilities) Piping and structural works Heavy lifting or specialised construction services Strong understanding of contracting models (EPC, EPCM, Alliances, Design & Construct) Demonstrated success in winning complex, high-value projects Strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills Commercially astute with solid contract awareness Desirable Qualification in engineering, construction management, or business Established industry network across infrastructure and energy sectors Experience working with tier-one contractors, utilities, operators, or government clients Ability to interpret technical scopes, drawings, and specifications Key Competencies Strategic thinking and market awareness Strong relationship building and stakeholder management Commercial judgement and negotiation capability Results-driven with resilience and initiative Collaborative and team-oriented approach High attention to detail and professionalism What Success Looks Like Achievement of sales and revenue targets Strong, sustainable pipeline of opportunities High-value contract wins Strong client satisfaction and repeat business Accurate forecasting and reporting Work Environment This role is office-based in Melbourne with regular engagement across client sites, industry events, and project locations.
