Supporting adults with physical and intellectual disabilities requires a unique blend of empathy, understanding, and skill. As a caregiver in this role, you will be working closely with individuals who require assistance with daily living activities such as hygiene support, medication administration, and domestic tasks. Your primary goal is to help them maintain their independence while promoting a high quality of life.
About the Role
This position involves providing one-on-one support to adult clients in various settings, including group homes and community-based programs. You will work collaboratively with other care professionals to develop and implement personalized plans that cater to each individual's needs and goals.
Your responsibilities may include:
* Assisting with personal care activities such as bathing, dressing, and toileting
* Administering medications as prescribed by healthcare professionals
* Preparing meals and snacks according to dietary requirements
* Engaging clients in recreational activities, social events, and outings
* Monitoring client health and well-being, reporting any concerns to supervisors
To be successful in this role, you will need to possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations. A Certificate III in Individual Support (or equivalent) and at least 12 months of paid experience supporting people with physical and intellectual disabilities are also essential requirements.
