About the Role
As a Disability Care Worker, you will be responsible for providing high-quality care and support to clients with disabilities.
Your role will involve assisting clients with daily personal care activities, such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.
You will also provide companionship and emotional support, engaging clients in social activities and meaningful conversations to foster their well-being and reduce loneliness.
In addition, you will help clients with errands and shopping, including grocery shopping and providing transportation to medical appointments or social events.
You will accompany clients during daily activities, ensuring they remain engaged and included in their routine.
Your responsibilities will also include encouraging safe movement and independence, supporting physical well-being through mobility assistance and physical activity.
You will plan and prepare meals tailored to clients' dietary needs, assisting with eating and drinking when necessary.
You will organize social events and activities to promote social interaction, mental stimulation, and emotional health.
You will administer medications as prescribed, ensuring clients' health conditions are managed and medication is taken as directed.
You will monitor and document health status, tracking changes in physical or emotional well-being and reporting any concerns.
You will assist with physical therapy exercises, helping clients improve strength and mobility as part of their rehabilitation or wellness plan.
You will respond to emergencies swiftly, providing first aid and ensuring the safety of clients in crisis situations.
You will coordinate medical appointments and provide transportation, ensuring clients have access to the healthcare they need.
You will maintain a safe and comfortable environment, ensuring the home is secure, clean, and conducive to the client's well-being.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
1. A Certificate 3 qualification in disability care;
2. A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience;
3. A minimum of 1 year practice of geriatric pharmacology;
4. At least 1 year experience operating various assistive technologies and devices, such as mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers), communication aids (speech-generating devices), and environmental control systems;
5. Certification or training in caregiving, first aid, and CPR;
6. A clear criminal background check;
7. The ability to meet physical fitness requirements for lifting and transferring clients;
8. Dependability and punctuality;
9. Effective communication skills with clients, families, and healthcare professionals;
10. Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds;
11. Documentation skills for keeping client care records;
12. The ability to handle pressure in a professional manner;
13. Positive past employment references.
