Role
The Staff Development Leader will be responsible and accountable to the College Executive Team, which consists of the Principal, Assistant Principals and Business Manager. They will provide leadership, information, direction and support to the School Council, teaching staff and school community in relation to programs and practice for their team.
In liaison with the College’s Executive Team and in accordance with College’s policies, and yet to be developed Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan, the Staff Development Leader will lead and manage the provision of support for staff learning within our school. This position seeks to support effective teaching and learning by ensuring that assistance is available to Staff at all levels, and that where difficulties arise a coordinated approach to their support is employed.
The Professional Learning program of the school will be based on the school’s agreed and adopted Pedagogy, its identified Systems & Processes and the Student Management needs of its students. It will also have a particular focus on embedding the school’s Bring Your Own Device Program (BYOD) as a tool to support the teaching and learning program of the school.
The primary responsibility of the Staff Development Leader is to coordinate, manage, and monitor the provision of a range of programs supporting the professional growth of staff which in turn will set the culture of the school. The leadership focus would be to facilitate forward planning and to develop a team-oriented approach to improve levels of expectation and aspiration amongst staff.
The Staff Development Leader will provide advice to the Principal and Leadership Team, where appropriate, regarding requirements and strategies for school improvement.
The Staff Development Leader will exercise judgment and initiative in assisting to resolve problems identified or referred by staff, to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, and standards maintained. This would be exercised within the broad policy of the school and under the broad supervision of the Principal Team.
Together, with the other Educational Leaders in Teaching and Learning, that will eventually join the team as the school grows, they will form a management and administrative team in which duties are negotiated with the Principal Team and are shared according to the needs of the school and interests of the personnel involved. This will enable flexibility to provide appropriate experience to Leaders over time.
The Staff Development Leader reports directly to the Curriculum Assistant Principal.
Typical duties undertaken will include the following:
Professional Learning
1. Coordinate, manage, and monitor the provision of a range of programs supporting the professional growth of staff including: professional support between staff (within and outside the College), facilitation and monitoring of peer observations, development and provision of a regular school based professional development program for whole staff and / or small groups, facilitate access to external PD activities by individuals and groups.
2. In conjunction with the Principal Team develop and document a school-wide Professional Learning plan based on individual staff and College needs.
3. Identifying and publishing regular Professional Development Staff Bulletin Reports featuring programs of Professional Development available to staff.
4. Implement feedback opportunities for staff such as peer observations, student and parent experience
5. Manage, lead, and coordinate the Induction process of staff.
6. Lead and manage the Mentoring Program.
7. Coordinate VIT registration process for graduate teachers.
8. Provide support to class teachers to embed research-based strategies such as HITS, and the school’s adopted GANAG teaching schema.
9. Work closely with teachers as an instructional coach
10. Assume a leading role in supporting staff in monitoring and assessing student learning data at the individual and cohort level and to use data to inform strategies for improvements.
11. To convene regular meetings of relevant groups.
12. Be part of the Leadership team that helps monitor the Professional Learning Teams (PLTs) process and plan for curriculum improvement
Performance & Development Process
13. Lead and manage the school-wide Performance & Development process (PDPs)
14. Maintain accurate records of staff PDPs and development.
15. Liaise with the school’s Educational Leaders to develop processes which encourage staff to use data to inform their performance in line with the College expectations and Department of Education standards.
Use of Technology
16. Liaise with the college’s Compass Leader in teaching college staff to implement the use of all Compass features
17. Liaise with regional division, Department of Education, and IT Department on eLearning.
18. Lead and engage eLearning across the college to promote creative and innovative thinking.
19. Lead and support colleagues within the school to use ICT with effective teaching strategies to expand learning opportunities and content knowledge for all
20. Lead eLearning programs to differentiate learning for all ability levels.
21. Monitor and evaluate the implementation of eLearning teaching strategies across the school
22. In conjunction with the Curriculum Assistant Principal: embed the use of the school’s BYOD program into the teaching and learning program build staff capacity to utilize the BYOD devices in the classroom review the use of ICT across the curriculum Liaise with BYOD supplier to provide a coordinated approach to devices for students Identify, initiate and implement programs that build parent engagement information nights for BYOD and ICT
23. Advocate, participate and lead strategies that support college and Department of Education policies across the whole school.
24. Chair the Technology Management Committee to ensure the ICT infrastructure of the school is meeting the needs of the teaching and learning program
25. As a member of the school’s Leadership team, oversee the whole school Professional Learning program and the alignment of professional learning with the school’s Professional Development Plan, Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) and School Strategic Plan (SSP) when these are eventually developed.
