About the Role
We are seeking a skilled seeking a highly skilled contractor to lead performance tuning and cost optimisation efforts for a modernised application environment hosted on AWS. This role is pivotal in enhancing the efficiency and performance of a Linux-based infrastructure running Apache Tomcat, supporting applications migrated from COBOL to Java using Innowake.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Conduct in-depth performance tuning of AWS-hosted Linux instances running Apache Tomcat.
* Analyse resource utilisation and drive cost optimisation across the AWS environment.
* Collaborate with internal teams and Deloitte's Innowake-powered modernisation platform to ensure stable performance of Java/DB2 applications.
* Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues in Tomcat and Linux environments.
* Apply best practices for Tomcat configuration, JVM tuning, and Linux system optimisation.
* Provide detailed documentation and actionable recommendations for sustained performance improvements.
Requirements and Experience
* Strong expertise in Apache Tomcat, including configuration, deployment, and performance tuning.
* Advanced knowledge of Linux systems (preferably RHEL or CentOS) in cloud-hosted environments.
* Proven hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure – particularly EC2, CloudWatch, and cost management tools.
* Familiarity with legacy-to-modern application transformation, particularly COBOL to Java conversions.
* Experience working with Java and DB2 in enterprise-scale environments.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to work autonomously and collaborate across teams.
* Must be an Australian Citizen (due to security clearance requirements).
* Hands-on experience with Innowake or similar application modernisation platforms.
* Knowledge of DevOps practices and automation within AWS environments.
* Understanding of AWS cost optimisation strategies and billing insights.
