About the role
We are seeking an Apprentice Heavy Diesel Fitter / Plant Mechanic to join our Braeside-based maintenance team. This role is designed for someone at the start of their trade and provides structured, hands‐on learning across a specialised fleet of heavy plant and geotechnical equipment used on major projects nationwide.
You will work closely with experienced tradespeople while completing a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (Plant Mechanic) or equivalent qualification.
What you will learn
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be trained in:
* Servicing and maintaining heavy plant and mobile equipment
* Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines
* Working with hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and cylinders
* Mechanical repairs to drivetrains, transmissions, and braking systems
* Basic electrical fault‐finding on plant equipment
* Planned maintenance and breakdown repairs
* Safe work practices, isolation procedures, and workshop standards
* Understanding plant maintenance schedules and documentation
Key responsibilities
* Assist qualified tradespeople with servicing and repairs
* Support planned and reactive maintenance activities
* Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop housekeeping
* Follow all safety, quality, and environmental procedures
* Actively participate in on‐the‐job and formal training
About you
* Genuine interest in heavy diesel mechanics and plant equipment
* Willingness to learn, ask questions, and follow instructions
* Reliable, punctual, and safety focused
* Able to work effectively in a team environment
* Construction White Card (or willingness to obtain)
* Positive attitude and strong hands‐on work ethic
