ORGANISATION OVERVIEW
Schools Ministry Group (SMG) is a faith based organisation providing ongoing pastoral and practical support through chaplaincy, Christian education, and wellbeing services across South Australia. SMG employs more than 220 Pastoral Care Workers in SA government schools and is an approved Chaplaincy Service Provider through the National Student Wellbeing Program (NSWP).
POSITION SUMMARY
The Bookkeeping & Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely delivery of core financial administration functions, including end-to-end payroll support for 250+ employees, accounts payable and receivable, reconciliations, and compliance reporting. Working within a cohesive and supportive team, this role supports the organisation by ensuring financial integrity and regulatory compliance.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Payroll Administration
* Assist with end-to-end payroll processing for Pastoral Care Workers and Support Centre staff.
* Ensure accuracy of timesheets, pay rates, allowances, deductions, and entitlements.
* Set up new employees and maintain employee records.
* Maintain compliance with payroll legislation.
* Respond to payroll enquiries and liaise with Regional Managers.
* Prepare payroll reports and assist with reporting obligations.
Bookkeeping & Financial Administration
* Process accounts payable and receivable.
* Prepare and issue invoices and follow up debtors.
* Reconcile bank accounts.
* Process employee expense reimbursements.
* Maintain accurate financial records.
Reporting, Compliance & Support
* Prepare financial and payroll reports.
* Identify discrepancies and escalate as required.
* Preparation and Filing of BAS and other ATO & ACNC reports
* Assist with audits and government reporting.
* Support continuous improvement of systems and processes.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
* Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience in bookkeeping or payroll.
* Proven payroll processing experience.
* Experience in not-for-profit sector desirable.
* Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
* Experience with accounting systems.
