About the Business Unit
Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC) is a maximum-security remand facility based in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Prisoners on remand are alleged offenders who were not bailed when charged with a crime and are awaiting the outcome of their court case.
The Metropolitan Remand Centre is a 954-bed maximum-security facility for unsentenced male offenders located within the West Metropolitan Region, Department of Justice, and Community Safety.
About the Role
At the Metropolitan Remand Centre (MRC), each Justice Officer role specialises in one of five streams - Records/Property, Human Resources, Stores/Canteen, Infrastructure/Technology/Finance and Administration. Over time, and with appropriate support and training, Justice Officers may be rotated between these streams to provide career enhancement opportunities to those staff, and operational flexibility to the prison.
This position requires direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Determination.
**Some of your duties may include**:
- Greet and liaise with clients and stakeholders and provide accurate advice and information in relation to justice services in accordance with business processes.
- Deliver justice services and maintain accurate, confidential records and provide statistical reports in line with agreed standards and local operating procedures.
- As part of the Property team, under supervision, perform all administrative functions pertaining to the Records and Property at the Metropolitan Remand Centre.
About You
- Well developed computer literacy.
- Good knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations.
- Demonstrated experience in or understanding of working within a correctional environment.

**IMPORTANT INFORMATION**:

Therefore, there is a requirement that all DJCS employees be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to undertake duties outside of their homes.
At interview stage and prior to commencement of employment with the department, you will need to provide evidence that you are vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.
Upon commencement of employment with the department you will be required to provide evidence that you have an up-to-date vaccination status within the timelines specified by the department into the DJCS Service Portal. This includes evidence of three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine required by the department (from time to time).
**Acceptable evidence includes**:
- COVID-19 digital certificate or ATAGI exemption certificate (available via your myGov account)
- Your immunisation history statement (available via your myGov account)
Other documentation outside the above will not be accepted as evidence of having received your COVID-19 vaccine doses.
