Allara Drives is Canberra's first social enterprise driving school run by Allara Capital, with funding from the ACT Government and support from Mill House Ventures. Our driving school is open to everyone, with a special focus on helping people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds by offering low-cost driving lessons.
This job is a targeted role. It is only open to women under Section 42 of the Discrimination Act 1991 (ACT). This is to support equality and diversity in our workplace.

What you'll do
* Teach people how to drive with 1-on-1 lessons around Canberra
* Help people from different backgrounds gain independence through driving
* Learn new skills and get a professional driving instructor qualification
You need to have
* Good English communication (speaking, reading, and writing) skills
* Another language besides English (preferred but not essential)
* Held a full Australian licence for at least 5 years
* A safe driving record and good understanding of road rules
* Be reliable and on time
* You will also need to agree to work with Allara Drives as a full‐time employee for at least 12 months after training
* Teaching or driver training experience
* Work experience in Australia
* Your own car (we provide one with special controls) which you will need to collect and return the car to Turner before and after your lessons
What we offer
We will pay for you to get your instructor qualification, including:
* Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training (TLI41225) and Assess Competence unit (TAEASS412)
* Public liability insurance
* Accreditation with the ACT Government and/or NSW Government
* Other requirements before you start training which include:
o Passing a driver health check (appointment with a GP)
o Show your licence history (5 years)
o Have or get a Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) card
* You'll work full time for Allara Drives under the Miscellaneous Award 2020 (MA000104), Level 3 pay ($28.12/hour)
* We cover all car, fuel, and lesson costs
* You'll work in a supportive, inclusive environment that values your background
