Overview:
The Senior Scientific Officer - Legislation Strategy & Implementation is responsible for the effective development/review and implementation of bi-national (Australian and New Zealand), national and State food and primary production and processing (PPP) legislation, including effective role clarity, co-ordination and consistency nationally and in South Australia.
* The position is responsible for the development, implementation, assessment and review of State and national food regulation legislation policy which are crucial and complex. The Senior Scientific Officer is responsible for the control and co-ordination of crucial, complex and sensitive programs and operations to ensure that legislation is successfully developed/reviewed and implemented, in an effective and economic manner.
* A particular focus will be the development of stakeholder networks and communication channels; the development of professional scientific advice and consultancy services to other agencies, industry and the public; and the development of crucial information and advice for management and peers regarding the monitoring, development and delivery of programs.
* The position is responsible for managing the Notifiable Contaminants Regulations 2020 notifications received from laboratories, other regulators and businesses. This includes conducting risk assessments, assessing the need for food recalls, site visit investigations or any other action as required.

Immunisation Risk for this position is Category C (minimal patient contact)
SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Special Conditions
* A driver's licence (car class) is essential.
* Out of hours work will be required via a rotating weekend on-call roster. Other out of hours work may be required.
