Rural Land Services Officer (Surat)
Surat, QLD | Fixed-Term Full-Time (38 hrs/week) to December 2026
$70,798.69 + Allowances + 9-day fortnight

* Maranoa locality allowance ($72/fortnight)
* Rural Lands Allowance ($71.79/week)

Maranoa Regional Council is seeking a practical, community-minded Rural Land Services Officer to support and protect the Surat region’s rural industry. You’ll work alongside landholders and State agencies to keep stock routes functioning, pests controlled and rural land productive. This role has variety, autonomy and real impact.
What you’ll be doing
Pest Management (Plants & Animals)
* Deliver weed and wild dog control programs
* Administer 1080 distribution and maintain compliance records
* Map infestations and monitor outcomes
* Work directly with landholders and stakeholders
* Process wild dog scalps and related documentation
Stock Route Management
* Monitor travel and agistment compliance
* Inspect and maintain water facilities and pasture conditions
* Maintain and construct infrastructure (fences, tanks, troughs, signage)
* Assist with managing straying stock
Compliance, Operations & Community
* Conduct inspections and enforce relevant legislation
* Prepare reports and support enforcement action where required
* Operate and maintain vehicles, spray equipment and plant
* Deliver community education and provide practical land management advice
What you’ll bring
* Experience in a rural or livestock environment
* Practical knowledge of pest plant and animal control
* Understanding of stock route operations and compliance requirements
* Experience working outdoors in challenging conditions
* Skills in rural water infrastructure maintenance
* Knowledge of safe chemical and poison handling
* Strong communication and report writing skills
* A practical, community-focused approach
(Local government experience is advantageous but not essential.)
Mandatory Requirements
(Must hold, or obtain within 6 months)
* C Class Driver Licence
* Queensland Health approval for 1080 and Strychnine
* ACDC Chemical Accreditation
* White Card
* Q Fever, Hepatitis B and ABLV (Rabies) vaccinations
* Weapons Licence (Category A & B)
* Humane Destruction of Animals training
Desirable: Qualifications in Land Management, Applied Science or similar.
