What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of the position is to provide quality care to patients in a complex clinical environment. Medical Officers will work under an appropriate level of supervision according to their level of competence to evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages presenting in any condition and will work in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings.
Responsibilities
* Coordinating, implementing and documenting the admission, management and discharge planning of patients seen in or admitted to his/her department within MLHD, ensuring that the admission and plans are documented in the medical records.
* Day‑to‑day assessment and management of the patients in his/her department, communicating with them and their family the nature of their condition and its treatment.
* Communicating and coordinating care with their team, arranging consultation with other staff when appropriate, then arranging discharge and liaising with local medical officers and other community‑based care modalities.
* Participating in the assessment of deteriorating patients outside of the critical care environment, and in the Rapid Response team when assessed to be at an appropriate level of clinical competency.
* Discussing all decisions concerning the patient(s) in consultation with their immediate supervisor.
* Participation in the after‑hours and relief roster.

The Wagga Wagga Health Service has undergone a $431 million redevelopment, completed in 2021. The health campus includes a 325‑bed referral hospital (Wagga Wagga Base Hospital), a 24‑hour Emergency Department equipped with telehealth cameras, a purpose‑built Health Services Hub offering a range of services, and a specialised Mental Health Unit. Wagga Wagga is the largest regional city in NSW with a diverse range of facilities and community services.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Unconditional general registration or eligible for unconditional registration with AHPRA.
* Completion of at least two postgraduate years working as a medical officer with demonstrated competence.
* Demonstrated interest in Critical Care Medicine and willingness to learn a range of invasive therapies.
* Demonstrated ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, including providing leadership and direction to ensure appropriate management of patients.
* Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgment and expertise, with a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
* Demonstrated time‑management and problem‑solving skills, along with evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self‑education.
* Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and computer skills, with a minimum of 30 words per minute.
