The Opportunity
We are currently seeking an Environmental Manager and Service Support to join our senior leadership team onsite.
Reporting to the General Manager this role develops and directs objectives, strategies, policies and plans for the environment activities of the organisation in order to achieve agreed business goals
Responsibilities, tasks, and duties:
This position will be required to carry out the following tasks:
* Provide regular reports (weekly and monthly) to all stakeholders including but not limited to the Board of Directors, Owners, Producers, Operators, General manager;
* Ensure regulatory Environmental compliance and audits are managed in accordance with requirements;
* Ensure all compliance issues raised through Audit/Compliance are tabled, investigated and closed out in a timely manner;
* Environmental testing/reporting as directed or in accordance with Swickers Environmental Plan, Swickers Environmental Authority and Swickers Irrigation Management Plan as updated from time to time;
* Advise and offer management environmental solutions, in line with Industry best practices;
* Investigate on site reports of animal welfare incidents. Prepare Animal Welfare Incident Reports in response to animal welfare incidents, as directed by the OPV or Swickers Management.
* Supervise and where necessary assist the grounds maintenance staff with grounds maintenance duties around the abattoir and surrounds.
* Liaise with Farm Manager to ensure farming practices and waste water irrigation activities are being conducted in an environmentally sustainable manner.
* On site link to producers and operators for ensuring relevant, up to date feedback on health of animals is provided from receivals to slaughter;
* Communicate feedback and advice from external stakeholders to producers (for e.g. group vet, nutritionist, APL etc.);
* Organise and hold regular producer meetings in key regions across Southeast QLD as well as attend Producer meetings when required or invited;
* Build and maintain strong relationships with producers to ensure ongoing, uninterrupted supply of livestock to the abattoir;
* Strong business skills and sense to determine monetary value and financial impacts of decisions regarding livestock, offal, animal health concerns etc;
* Strong understanding of animal diseases and conditions both seen in live animals in lairage and on the Slaughter floor – ability to identify these and liaise with Meat Inspection team on dispositions, before relaying to producers, vets etc;
Qualifications and Experience:
Our preferred candidate will have the below:
* Swickers has established an efficient, highly skilled yet diversified team. As a key member you will have:
* At least 1 year of relevant experience in the environmental field
* Bachelor's degree in environmental science / practice is required
* Previous experience and/or understanding of environmental regulation, reporting, and monitoring, is desirable.
* Strong understanding and experience in animal health issues, with particular focus on pigs;
* Strong communication skills;
* Technical background, understanding and experience of the issues that exist with group animal housing;
* Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Package – Excel essential). (Pivot tables, graphing, spreadsheet advantageous).
