Overview
We're looking for a Truth Telling Manager to join the YOKAI team. Traditionally history and truth-telling has been controlled by Non-Aboriginal historians. They have decided what stories have been told and by whom this has created a huge gap in the full true story of the Stolen Generations in W.A. We stand for Truth, Justice & Healing. Our approach is for Stolen Generations Survivors to decide what stories are told and they tell the stories.
Yokai has had significant experience in Truth-Telling about the Stolen Generations and this culminated in the production of our multi award-winning documentary "Genocide in the Wildflower State." We are looking for a skilled individual to manage the creation of a series of Truth telling tools for educational & training purposes.
The Truth Telling Manager position supports Yokai's mission by working with the Yokai Healing our Spirit team on:
* Manage all aspects of the truth telling aspects of YOKAI's operations.
* Lead consultation with Stolen generations survivors & descendants.
* Manage & support the truth telling team.
* Manage & promote new healing tools such as GWS documentary & enhanced VR.
* Work in collaboration with other YOKAI teams - Redress, Eldercare & Healing center.
* Engage & Education the broader community on the truth of the Stolen Generations.
* Amplify the voice & stories of Stolen generations survivors & their families.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Truth Telling Manager position:
* Manage & promote new healing tools such as second GWS documentary & enhanced VR.
* Build & maintain relationship with key stakeholder to deliver & promote truth telling.
* Project Plan & manage truth telling education & training events.
* Deliver & facilitate truth telling events & training.
* Establish & manage survivor advisory committee on truth telling.
* Lead site truth telling initiatives at Sister Kates Site.
* Provide guidance to staff on policies, protocols and strategies.
* Provide detailed & timely reports to the CEO.
* Other duties as assigned by CEO.
* Awareness of YOKAI's mission of truth justice and healing as well as strategic objectives.
* Has strong knowledge and experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with specific understanding of the Stolen Generations.
* Demonstrated experience as a manager, leader & motivator.
* Able to provide support & supervision to staff.
* Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear and concise external communications.
* Good conceptual, research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Well-developed communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and prioritise work.
* Formal Qualification in leadership & or management
* Experience working with ACCOs
* Experience working with Aboriginal people & communities
