At Mercure Townsville, a key regional meetings and events destination, we are looking for a commercially driven hunter to aggressively grow our Conferences & Events business and own this market. This is a high-impact role for someone who thrives on prospecting, converting, and closing, while still delivering exceptional event experiences.

About the role

As Conferences & Events Sales Manager, you will be responsible for driving top-line revenue through active business development, strategic account growth, and strong conversion discipline. This is a hands-on sales role, combining leadership with direct ownership of key accounts and new business acquisition.

* Actively hunt, secure, and grow new conference, events, and incentive business
* Build and maintain a strong pipeline through proactive prospecting, cold calling, networking, and client engagement
* Drive conversion of leads into confirmed business, consistently exceeding revenue and conversion targets
* Identify need periods and high-yield opportunities, deploying targeted sales strategies to maximise revenue
* Own and grow key corporate, government, and events accounts
* Lead and energise the C&E Sales team to deliver strong commercial outcomes
* Set, track, and report on individual and team sales targets and conversion performance
* Prepare compelling, commercially strong proposals covering venues, catering, and accommodation
* Chair weekly Banquet Event Order (BEO) meetings to ensure clarity, momentum, and accountability
* Work closely with hotel operations to ensure flawless execution and repeat business
* Conduct high-impact site inspections and familiarisations that convert interest into bookings
* Represent the hotel at sales calls, trade shows, and industry events to actively generate new leads
* Maintain a strong on-property presence and visible leadership within the hotel

What We're Looking For

* Proven success in hotel or events sales with a strong new-business focus
* A confident, self-motivated closer who thrives on targets and performance metrics
* Strong commercial mindset with experience in revenue forecasting and pipeline management
* Exceptional communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
* Knowledge of liquor licensing and responsible service of alcohol
* Strong IT skills, including Excel and Word
* Experience with Opera Cloud and/or Shiji is advantageous
