About the role
Our Commonwealth Government client is seeking a legal professional at the senior associate level to be engaged as a secondee in their Employment Law Team. The successful candidate will provide advice on a range of high-risk or sensitive employment matters, manage strong working relationships with key stakeholders and clients, and draft and review various employment documents.
An initial labour hire contract until 30 June **** is on offer, with possibility of extension.
This role is full time and can be undertaken from Canberra (ACT) or Sydney (NSW); however other locations around Australia will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Hybrid working arrangements are also available.
Only Australian citizens will be considered for this role. An existing AGSVA security clearance is not required but will be highly regarded.
Duties
Advise on employment law issues including in relation to recruitment, performance management, misconduct, disciplinary action, termination, and workplace investigations.
Draft and review employment contracts, policies, procedures and guidelines.
Advise on enterprise agreements, industrial instruments and bargaining processes.
Advise on APS-specific employment frameworks (Public Service Act ****, Code of Conduct, APS Values) and WHS compliance under the Work Health and Safety Act.
Build and maintain relationships with internal clients and external stakeholders.
Provide strategic legal advice to SES and executive teams on high-risk or sensitive matters.
Requisite skills / experience
Demonstrated experience (ideally 5+ years' PQE) in employment law or workplace relations matters, preferably within the Commonwealth Government or a large organisational context.
Strong ability to manage competing priorities, exercise sound judgement, and provide strategic, risk-based legal advice.
Proven leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence outcomes.
