Job Description

The Opportunity

We are currently looking for a Rollingstock Interface Engineer on a 2year Fixed Term, Full Time contract basis.

The Role

This role acts as the technical point of contact between Arc Infrastructure (Rail Infrastructure Manager) and rolling stock operators authorised to operate on the regional freight rail network. It bridges the technical requirements of rail infrastructure with the operational and mechanical requirements of rolling stock, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient railway operations across the network. The role is critical to protecting network integrity whilst enabling freight operators to integrate their rolling stock into service.

Some of the key duties and responsibilities are:

Rolling Stock Registration & Compliance

* Manage end‐to‐end registration of rolling stock, including assessment of submissions, technical changes, and certification.
* Coordinate testing with ICPs, maintain the rolling stock register and TOC documents, and liaise with regulators.
* Recommend restrictions or waivers where needed and drive improvements to registration processes.

Technical Liaison & Stakeholder Engagement

* Act as the main technical contact for operators and internal teams, providing guidance on standards, infrastructure limits, and compliance.
* Support assessments of track capability and represent Arc Infrastructure in industry forums and technical meetings.

Technical Documentation & Standards Interpretation

* Produce clear technical correspondence, assessments, and procedure updates.
* Interpret rolling stock and infrastructure standards, identify non‐conformances, and determine appropriate controls or modifications.
* Oversee compliance and registration of maintenance vehicles and specialised rail plant.
* Lead or support risk assessments and technical investigations into derailments or interface issues.
* Prepare reports, identify root causes, and present findings to internal teams and regulators.

Continuous Improvement & Safety Culture

* Identify process improvements, update standards, analyse compliance trends, and support wayside monitoring systems.
* Contribute to organisational learning and safety culture development.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

* Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, civil engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
* Professional registration as an engineer (or demonstrated pathway to registration) is preferred
* Minimum 8 years professional experience in railway engineering, ideally involving rolling stock, track infrastructure, and interface management
* Demonstrated experience with technical document control, engineering drawing interpretation, and standards application
* Strong technical writing capability with ability to communicate complex engineering concepts to diverse audiences
* Experience with formal risk analysis methodologies and technical incident investigation
* Proficiency with technical software tools relevant to railway engineering (CAD, analysis tools, or technical documentation systems)
* Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects and coordinate with multiple stakeholder groups
