About the Role
To provide exceptional customer service and comprehensive maintenance services to the client and the contract.
This role requires the Lead Engineer to understand and operate procedures and processes to required standards.
The Lead Engineer will support a static on‑site client operating a hyperscale data centre and will report to the Critical Facilities Manager along with operational tradesmen, contract support, supervisors, etc.
What You'll Do Provide all‑round engineering support in maintaining operational assets.
Ensure that all engineering operational activities are controlled, health and safety compliant, and maintain 100% uptime.
Act as an HV authorised person, championing technical operations compliance.
Maintain excellent response standards to asset performance, completing assigned work and addressing any abnormal operating conditions.
Deliver business communication through advice, review, leadership and participation in meetings, briefings, correspondence and reporting.
Plan work, manage daily operations, communicate issues and measure performance.
Lead technical meetings, develop procedures, foster relationships and provide services of high standards.
Serve as point of contact for significant events or technical escalations.
Participate in business continuity plans as needed.
Ensure compliance with data centre operations and CBRE business policies.
Supervise and manage the technical on‑site team, setting performance goals, coaching and counselling.
Ensure optimal staffing, succession planning and staff training & development.
Ensure full 24/7 coverage through suitable staff coverage.
Coordinate work permits and secure approvals affecting business‑critical systems.
Monitor risk assessments and supplier activities for H&S compliance.
Maintain statutory, policy and contractual commitments.
Maintain customer focus and relationships with key client contacts, ensuring SLA's and KPI's are met.
Manage contractors/suppliers to maintain high standards of maintenance, repairs and operations.
Hold vendor management meetings and follow agenda templates.
Develop and audit local MOPs, SOPs, EOPs.
Promote CBRE values and professional image onsite.
Perform other tasks directed by the client.
Escalate relevant matters to superiors promptly.
Close and manage non‑conformances and vendor issues in a timely manner.
Support CMMS Operator with PPM scheduling and reactive works.
Provide relief to the Critical Facilities Manager during absences.
People Management Provide leadership, coaching, training and performance appraisal.
Develop training plans, maintain training records and logs.
Facilitate onboarding of new employees and coordination of engagement activities.
Maintain trade licence logs and organisational charts.
Arrange agency cover and submit hours on portal.
Promote teamwork, culture and client relationship management.
Accountable to performance standards and manage underperformance.
Participate in team meetings and activities.
Promote teamwork within the team, contract and business.
Quality and Safety Administer QHSE tasks.
Coordinate sub‑contractor files for statutory compliance.
Manage and report work systems.
Log hazards and customer feedback on QHSE portal.
Maintain logbook compliance and e‑logbooks.
Ensure mandatory training compliance.
Other Responsibilities Receive supplier quotes and upload to internal system for approval.
Work with procurement team when required.
Update portals as needed.
Constantly improve quality, service and efficiency.
Process improvement and maintain expert knowledge.
What You'll Need Engineering experience in Electrical/Mechanical or Technical Management within a critical environment/Data centre.
Knowledge of safety code requirements and experience in Health & Safety Risk Assessments and Control Measures.
Experience maintaining critical temperature‑controlled environments.
Detailed knowledge of data centre electrical and mechanical systems (feeders, transformers, generators, fuel systems, switchgear, UPS, batteries, ATS/STS, PDU/PMM, AHUs, chilled water, fire alarm, fire suppression).
Prior experience managing large scale outsourced contracts.
Prior operations management experience including team management, work scheduling and performance reviews.
Experience with maintenance scheduling and subcontractor management.
Strong understanding of ticketing or workflow management systems.
Experience managing escalations and emergency issues.
Vendor management experience ensuring progress and objectives.
Familiarity with ISO/FISMA audit processes.
Line‑management experience including recruitment.
Australian Citizenship is required; a government clearance up to NV1 may be required.
