About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to join our Global Operations team as EHS Manager, ANZ for our Brisbane operations. EHSQS is the number one priority at Tate & Lyle. It is one of our core values and influences every business decision we make. Tate & Lyle has made a lot of progress in the previous years when it developed our cultural maturity model to support our EHSQS programs. The role will lead to EHS compliance, sustainable culture change, process improvements, change management, and framework implementation at the site. It also leads all incident investigations deemed necessary at the site, drives, trains, and coaches local operational and EHSQS teams on all Journey-related tasks, including digital tools.
Key Responsibilities
* Daily management, coordination, and facilitation to ensure a safe work environment at the Wacol site.
* Ensure site training requirements comply with local OHS regulations and external 3rd Party Auditing standards, maintaining a skills- and assessment-based training matrix for Production, Quality, and Office teams.
* Oversee all aspects of site safety, including facilitating site OHS Committee activities (monthly meetings & reports) and wellbeing programs that benefit site employees.
* Assume role as Element Owner / Co-Element Owner / EHSQS Committee / Emergency Response team in J2EQE when required.
* Actively support and promote the Journey to EHS Excellence through best‐practice sharing, support, and domain expertise with relevant site element owners and Global J2E Leaders.
* Ensure EHS compliance with local, global, and international standards and legislation.
* Facilitate all aspects of the J2E program across the site with all site-based personnel.
* Review and maintain site Safety & Environmental plans and assist with the maintenance of site Quality and Food Safety programs.
* Attend and participate in local, regional, and global meetings where required, including some that may fall outside normal working hours.
* Assist J2E Element owners to progress their individual Elements with sustainable actions.
* Lead, conduct, and implement resolutions to progress site safety and J2E behaviors.
* Investigate EHS‐related issues in a timely manner and resolve with practical and sustainable actions.
* Assist in compiling and managing the site compliance calendar and closing out items.
* Facilitate and prepare monthly reports and share third‐party learnings globally.
* Work with purchasing staff to establish safety requirements from external suppliers.
* Support employees and contractors on EHS matters to ensure engagement in shaping EHS culture and program improvement.
* Promote and support Incident/Near Miss reporting and safety‐based "STOP Work" decisions.
* Deliver comprehensive knowledge and expertise across EHS compliance‐related programs, implementing sustainable corrective actions and ensuring full compliance at the site.
* Serve as the domain expert for all digital tools used in the business, e.g., ESG Benchmark, QR Code, Teams.
* Lead HOP and CI implementation locally for EHS/J2E projects and programs.
* Align personal goals and objectives with the site Strategic Plan.
* Assist driving cultural improvement of production/warehouse/quality teams in line with J2E objectives using Lean principles such as Root Cause Analysis, 5 Whys, and Problem Solving.
* Lead role in identifying, controlling, and eliminating hazards within factory operations.
* Support the maintenance of all site certifications (AQIS, Safe food Queensland, FSSC, and QAP).
* Possess knowledge of Life Saving Principles (LSP), Stop Work Authority, and Product Protection Principles (PPP).
* Work independently with excellent time‐management skills.
* Assist in other areas or perform duties as required.
About You
* BSc degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Engineering, or a related accredited field.
* Training or Assessor qualifications desirable.
* Minimum five (5) years of experience in a leading safety‐focused role.
* Experience in the food manufacturing industry highly desirable.
* Experience in LEAN investigation techniques – Root Cause Analysis, Problem Solving.
* Persuasive, proactive, adaptable, and possessing strong communication skills necessary to facilitate cultural and behavioral change related to safety and wellbeing.
* Good leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities, and excellent analytical and problem‐solving skills.
* Knowledge of food legislation, FSSC, HACCP, and ISO preferred.
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives of moderate scope and impact.
