The National Security and Space Program sits within the Bureau's Business Solutions Group and is the primary provider of products and services generated in partnership with expert meteorologists and space weather forecasters across the Bureau. These products are tailored through a deep understanding of the decision making and operational needs of the spaceflight sector. SFMS ensures it is able to supply specialist expertise and local knowledge to customers to enable improved and high-quality decision-making information to support safe and successful launch and spaceflight.
The Manager, Spaceflight Operations is responsible for ensuring the delivery of operational services to the spaceflight sector in an effective and efficient way. Leading a small team of meteorologists, the Manager Spaceflight Operations will liaise closely with the emerging spaceflight sector in Australia, (including launch providers, government partners and regulators) to understand and address the customer's needs.
The position will report to Manager Defence Operations-HQJOC, and will work closely with the National Manager, Space (Space Lead) and the Manager, Space Weather Operations to ensure the delivery of efficient and effective domestic and international meteorological and space weather environmental intelligence to the Australian spaceflight sector.
To succeed in this role the occupant will have excellent organisational and planning skills and have the ability to maintain strong relationships across the spaceflight sector. Using their excellent working knowledge of an operational environment, the occupant will be able to think on their feet, use initiative and have a desire to understand a problem fully to develop a solution for their customers.
