About the role National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a casual Discovery Guide to work as part of the South Coast team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage. As a Discovery Guide, you will implement diverse activities and learning experiences for visitors, while fostering community awareness, appreciation and understanding of conserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage. This educational role will focus on conducting weekday excursions for primary and secondary school groups, as well as delivering weekend and school holiday leisure programs and guided tours for visiting cruise ship passengers.
About You Your strong communication skills are paramount to the success of this role. You will be delivering programs to different stakeholders and will need to be able to think on your feet to respond to various questions and situations. Self-management is important for this role as there may be times you will be working alone and will need to ensure safety is a priority meeting the required Work Health Safety standards. Your experience in teaching and education will be highly valued. Demonstrated passion for geography and science, the Australian environment and awareness of NPWS values.
Key knowledge and experience
* Practical experience in interpretive and educational guiding or in delivering training or classroom experiences.
* Understanding of the role of the Department, and a broad knowledge of the natural values and cultural history of the local area.
* Awareness of Aboriginal Culture.

Essential requirements
* Current Working with Children check
* Senior First Aid certificate
