The Shared Services Division, within the Vice-President (Operations) portfolio, plays a central role in supporting the University of Wollongong's strategic and operational priorities by delivering high quality, efficient and customer focused services across the institution. Operating in a complex and rapidly evolving higher education environment, the division streamlines key administrative functions—including IT, HR, finance, procurement and facilities management—to reduce duplication and enable academic and professional units to focus on core teaching, research and engagement activities. Built on strong partnerships with faculties and business units, Shared Services is committed to digital transformation, continuous improvement and service excellence. Staff within the division are expected to demonstrate a strong customer service ethos, adaptability and a commitment to UOW's values, working collaboratively to deliver scalable, responsive and future ready services.
This position provides high level desktop and audiovisual (AV) support services to the UOW community, ensuring the reliable operation of technology across the Wollongong campus. As a key member of the Shared Services team, the role supports Windows, Mac and core UOW applications, delivers technical guidance for AV equipment, and ensures timely resolution of incidents and service requests. The position requires strong diagnostic and problem solving skills, excellent communication with both technical and non technical users, and the ability to coordinate contractors and elevate complex issues when required. The Desktop Support Specialist contributes to continuous service improvement, maintains up to date knowledge of emerging technologies and plays an important role in delivering exceptional customer service and high quality IT support across the University.
